Express Thai food at a restaurant could also be quite good

A few months back, I have heard quite bad comments about this restaurant and had been very reluctant to try it out ever since. However, due to an appointment with an acquaintance recently, I had no choice but to go there.

The restaurant in question is Siam Express in Gurney Plaza. They also have a branch in Queensbay Mall.

And so, we ordered quite a few things and even talked to the boss, Matt Khor, a Penangite with a Thai wife. It seems that the previous cook had been shown the door…thus the earlier talks of horrid food offered . . . → Read More: Express Thai food at a restaurant could also be quite good

Wolfberries or kei chi are good for our health

Wolfberries (Lycium Barbarum) or locally known as kei chi (cantonese) / kee chee ( hokkien) is a very healthy ingredient to be added to some of your dishes such as soups and steamed chicken (as in my steamed chicken recipe).

According to research and scientists, it is one of the healthiest food in this planet. Hah, so, they admit some of our chinese herbs are actually good! Alternative health expert Paul Brelin has this to say about this tiny wonder:

In addition to being packed with vitamins B1 and B6 (which is needed by the body . . . → Read More: Wolfberries or kei chi are good for our health

Make your own special steamed chicken

One of my toddler’s favourite foods is the healthy steamed chicken which requires very minimal preparation time and easy to cook. I often make this during weekends when we do not go out to eat. What is especially good about this dish is the simple recipe and its nutritious nature due to the ingredients used.

Since I am quite used to cooking without measuring out the ingredients so I will try to estimate the measurements of the ingredients used as accurately as possible.

Ingredients

1/4 Chicken

Koay Teow Th’ng

When people talk about Penang hawker food, they often refer to the ones on the island while many really good food places on the mainland part of the state were forgotten or given a miss. So, I am introducing another great place for a local, common hawker fare, Koay Teow Th’ng at the mainland.

Restoran Lin is infamous for its wonderfully tasty Koay Teow Th’ng. So much so that the old-style coffee shop it is based at is now renovated into an air-conditioned, modern restaurant setting! Previously, it was more of a Koay Teow Th’ng . . . → Read More: Koay Teow Th’ng

Tomyam Porridge

Have you ever tried Tomyam Porridge?

I usually do not like to eat porridge outside because of its watery and bland nature. The only porridge I really do eat is home-cooked, specifically by me. So, to my delight, we found this wonderful coffee shop which sells Tomyam porridge which is far from bland. I have this thing for Tomyam, or everything hot and spicy for that matter, so this porridge is really my kind of thing!

The porridge is cooked just nice, not too mushy and soft. The Tomyam flavour goes quite well with it too!

Another great tea time treat!

Deep-fried food may not be good for your health but heck, they are darn tasty! I especially like the chicken samosas sold at this stall along a junction at Queen Street.

The fillings are mostly chicken meat, potatoes, onions and spices. The skin is crispy and even though deep-fried, not as oily as you’d expect it to be.

Rating: 7/10

Price: RM1 each

Summary: It is a great tea-time snack but one that you can’t eat everyday because it isn’t very healthy. Besides, the stall isn’t open . . . → Read More: Another great tea time treat!
