One of my favourite hawker food is definitely the Yong Tau Hoo. We have tried out quite a lot of yong tau hoo stalls and this one next to Padang Brown in Datuk Keramat is a favourite of mine. It is along the lorong (lane) next to Padang Brown and is open air. So, in the middle of the afternoon, it can be quite warm and you will find yourself sweating profusely while tucking into a bowl of hot yong tau hoo.
The stall has quite a variety of ingredients to choose from, mostly are different types of fishballs and meatballs. I like it that she also puts tang hoon (glass noodles) into the soup upon request and also lots of green vegs.
It is also a good thing that the soup isn’t oily or have a too porky smell, unlike some other yong tau hoo stalls. My guess is that she didn’t use too much bak kut (pork ribs / bones) to boil the soup.
For this bowl of Yong Tau Hoo in which I ordered about 20 different ingredients, it costs about RM11. The price of each ingredient ranges from 50 sen to RM1.50. This is best eaten with yam rice which the stall also offer. However, I prefer just to take it just like that with the glass noodles. It is good enough without rice.
