I love spicy foods and one of the best tomyam noodle places I usually go to is the famous Lai Hoe hawker stall in Bayan Baru.
Remember the stall number. It is located within the hawker complex in Bayan Baru, next to Sunshine Square.
See here for detailed map to the complex.
They also have a ‘branch’ in another food court in Bukit Jambul but I prefer this original stall. The man busily cooking behind the stall is the main ‘chef’.
They have three types of food there. The infamous, incomparable, absolutely taste-bud tingling tom yam, clear soup for those who can’t take spicy food and porridge. The ingredients to choose are minced pork (RM3.50), fried fish (RM4) or prawns (RM7).
This is my most favourite of all favourites – their tom yam noodles (maggi mee) with fried fish. The tom yam soup is spicy with just the right amount of sourness and rather than being watery, it is really thick and one sip of it is enough to win you over as their lifelong customer.
Believe me, I discovered this stall more than 10 years ago and I am still coming back to eat their tom yam noodles when the craving strikes me.
After that remarkable tom yam soup, their clear bee hoon soup may taste a bit bland so it is really advisable that if you must try both types, eat this first before you started on the tom yam. It is tasty and I wouldn’t mind eating this if I had a sore throat and could not down their piping hot, spicy tom yam.
The stall is open for lunch and dinner daily.
