I have tried a lot of Chee Cheong Fan (steamed rice flour rolls covered in prawn paste and chilli sauce) everywhere and I can safely say that the best ever chee cheong fan is definitely the one at Genting Coffee shop in Greenlane.
The best part of any Chee Cheong Fan is the sauce. If the sauce is darn good, then the dish can be said as very delicious. This is because the rice flour rolls are practically tasteless. I can never understand people who could eat these plain, without sauce except for some sesame oil. Weird.
Anyway, this stall in Genting Coffee Shop sells the best chee cheong fan because their sauce is very different from others. From what I heard, they added some peanut butter to the prawn paste. I know it may sound weird and horrible but believe me, if you go try it out, you won’t think it is weird at all. The sauce is really thick and yes, it does not have the strong cloying prawn paste smell, perhaps because of the ‘special’ ingredient.
The Genting Coffee shop has quite a selection of other hawker food too. This chee cheong fan stall is only open during lunch.
