I’ve been to the Look Yuen Restaurant in Bukit Mertajam quite a few times already and each time, I never tire of their trademark dishes.
They have a variety of dishes to choose from but we always like to order their braised pork leg, fish curry and honey chicken, amongst other more normal dishes.
Their fish curry is slightly different from other places because it is a combination of coconut milk curry with lime. It may sound weird but the taste is really amazing because the sourish tinge actually helps to cut out the ‘too rich’ taste of the coconut milk. This is a must try dish if you are into curries.
The chicken was deep fried to a crispiness before it is added to their special honey sauce resulting in a savoury sweet chicken dish.
Their braised pork leg is really tender and just as tasty as the other dishes. The portion is really big too so only order this dish if there are a lot of you.
The prices are really, really reasonable and cheap. For the dishes above and a bowl of soup, a plate of fried onion omelette, rice and drinks the bill only comes up to RM67.20. That’s enough food for five adults.
There are ample free parking space around the restaurant and plenty of places to sit.
The restaurant is open everyday from 11am to 11pm. Their telephone number is 04-5074785.

I tried the food there on 19th August 2008 but sad to say the food is lousy except for the curry which is just average. The workers there are mostly from Burma with some Chin.
Price : Reasonable
Ambience : spartan
Quality of food : Average
The cashier and the kitchen are all LAN enable. High Tech.
Michael: Oh well. I guess that’s why there’s a saying that goes ‘one man’s meat, another man’s poison’. We obviously have different tastes. >_<
I have to agree about the ambiance, though for typical chinese restaurants like this, people don’t usually go for ambiance.

Henry: wah, the prawn sambal is good ah? Maybe next time lar. I’ve tried the zhao pai dou fu and I like it too.
don’t eat there..damn cocky (the person taking your orders) becos business is good. the lady taking the order behaves as though they are doing you a favour by taking your order. I thought the one handling my table was having her off day…but i looked around, all same…all the order takers seemed “lan si”
