Eng Lor Coffee Shop along Church Street
I’ve been frequenting Eng Lor Coffee Shop for lunch for more than 10 years now and till now, I still like their wonderful french toast and the variety of great hawker food there.
Situated right in the middle of George Town along the busy narrow streets of the inner city, it is not easy to find parking around the vicinity. In fact, it was downright difficult. And for those who’s not use to Penang traffic, it is not easy to manouvre through the narrow busy streets. Still, I love going there for lunch.
The coffee shop has hawkers selling char koay teow, wan tan mee, hokkien mee, koay teow th’ng, Indian rice, chicken rice and a small snacks stall. The coffee shop itself offers a variety of sandwiches and toasts, other than just drinks.
I absolutely love their french toast. Other than my own homemade french toast, I think theirs is the best I’ve had so far. It is a must try if you ever go to this coffee shop for breakfast or even lunch.
The Char Koay Teow there is also quite good, although there are better ones elsewhere. But hey, if you are craving for a plate of char koay teow, it still hits the spot. They also have fried rice and fried bihun.
Now, the wan tan mee here is also good. The stall offers quite a lot of different wan tan mee variety including curry wan tan mee and chicken leg wan tan mee. I also like their sui kow (prawn dumplings).
The pricing at the coffee shop, like many other hawker centres everywhere nowadays, are not exactly cheap anymore. Prices have been steadily increasing and what used to cost RM2.50 per plate is now RM3.80 or even RM4. Gone are the days of cheap hawker foods in Penang, except only at certain places.

I had not taken Char Koay Teow there for more than 20 years. Those days, it was excellent and I took it everyday because I worked in that vicinity. The cost was RM0.80 only. Maybe, I would go there when on the island since this coffee shop cropped up in your blog.
