Uggghhh….the grossest thing to eat ever

People eat a lot of weird stuffs worldwide and contrary to common believes that the Chinese are the ones who would eat anything with legs except tables and chairs, there are those outside of China who would eat extremely gross stuffs that will have you gagging at the mere thought of it.
I am not usually squemish when it comes to weird and bizarre foods. In fact, I loved watching the Bizarre Foods by Andrew Zimmern show on the Travel Channel. Of course watching the participants of the reality show Fear Factor squirming and gagging while downing some horrible concoction of insects and fermented whatever is also quite fun.
And yeah, I won’t bulk at giving this a try…
Worms
As long as it is cleaned out of all that mud and sand and yes, deep fried please. No raw worms, thank you. I just don’t relish the idea of these wriggly, slimy things being eaten alive…
And yes, I am even game to try this

Though it is not something even my adventurous tastes could try…just look at the veins…ugghh…but still it is not exactly all that gross. I mean, it’s sure a mouthful and perhaps popular with men who thinks it may somehow make their own..err..’equipment’ emulate what they ate but think about the irony of it. Men eating penises? And these are the ones condemning gays….hmmm..

Yep. The human placenta. Some people, the mothers usually, do actually take home their placenta after delivery and eat it. Don’t believe me? Check out this BBC article about it. Here’s an excerpt on why some people practise this:
One supposed reason is that it can reduce the incidence of post-natal depression. It has also been claimed to have nutritional properties needed by women after childbirth.
But consultant obstetrician Maggie Blott dismisses the post-natal depression theory. In fact, says Dr Blott, a spokeswoman for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, there’s no medical justification at all.
“Animals eat their placenta to get nutrition – but when people are already well-nourished, there is no benefit, there is no reason to do it,” she says.

Isn’t that more gross than eating any animal parts? Uggghhhhhh…..the mere thought of it makes me want to puke. And yes, I know about the use of animal placenta for cosmetics and I also find that extremely gross and disgusting. *shudders at the thought of using the placenta for anything except to bury it or dispose of it hygienically*

Nowadays in Australia mothers ask for their placenta to be stored. They is a Company that will store the placenta in frozen nitrogen for a annual fee.
The reason is, scientist have found the placenta contains stem cells and T cells. It is hoped that in a few years time stem cell research will reach a stage that the newborns stem cells can be used to repair organs that are damaged by disease or accidents latter on in life.
T cells are also proven to be effective in combating cancers and since both the stem cells and T cells are harvested from the person’s own placenta there will be no rejection problems.
Early research have shown that stem cells can repair hearts damaged by a heart attack or even spinal cord damage that can cause paralysis.
So people, don’t eat it, store it.
There is also a Company that store dead bodies in super freeze, hoping one day, science will progress to such an extent, they can unfreeze you, bring you back to life and cure whatever disease the killed you in the first place.
If you cannot afford to have your whole body stored, you can just store your head only……no kidding…this is true. Don’t scold me the typical Malaysian way “your head lah…..where got !!!”
Engineer: It’s not the whole placenta lar. They only take the stem cells and store it. We have that here in Malaysia too. A few companies are doing it.
But then these companies do not guarantee that the stem cells could still be used in future and some do not guarantee that the storage of the stem cells could ensure that it could be used in future. Also, they don’t guarantee that the stem cells won’t die if there happens to be power outage or any other ‘accidents’. Ceh. Pay them thousands to harvest the stem cells and even annual fees to ’store’ the stem cells, they have so many ‘we don’t guarantee this, we don’t guarantee that’. Then, what if the company closed down? What happen? We have to go take back the stem cells and store in our fridge ar?
Besides, the use of stem cells for curing cancer, etc, is still in the research stage and it is not proven on real humans yet.
Still a lot of gray area around stem cell storage and its uses…
Some Middle East people also eat the foetus of lambs and cows. They say it is very tender. I think this is very disgusting.
Some Chinese also eat live newborn baby mouse. They swallow them live and wash down with wine.
Many have heard but none have actually seen the popular tale about eating monkey brain.
I have drank wine soaked with snakes and lizards. After playing rugby I kena blue black marks on my body and my grandmother rub some on the marks and make me drink some also to prevent internal injury.
My grandmother told me everything with the backbone facing the sky, can eat.

Yikes, the placenta looks evil! How to eat? I guess it’s reverse psychology most times… just thinking of having to eat all of those stuff will instantly cure you of all ills! So no need to eat oredi, cure liao!
Even if I’m told I’ll look younger and be more beautiful if eat all those yucky stuff , I ‘ll just chose to remain my own original self.
