Healthy easy homemade yogurt and benefits of yogurt

Published by Foong at 12:54 am under Healthy food, Recipes, Snacks |

I loved to eat yogurt for breakfast or as a snack. I sometimes eat it for dessert too!

However, it is not always that I like to eat yogurt. It is more of an acquired taste. I remember when I first tried out plain natural yogurt, I could not stand the sourish taste, it tasted and smelt like spoiled milk. It made me gag. Then, I discovered the fruit-flavoured yogurt. The rest is history.

In the past, I would buy tubs of ready-made yogurt from the supermarket of various brands. That was until I discovered Easiyo, where I could make my own healthy easy homemade yogurt and yes, I can have loads of it too! I bought the yogurt maker and some of the yogurt powder. However, I stopped making my own yogurt when my supplier closed down. I didn’t know where to get the yogurt powder anymore…until recently…

Here’s how to make yogurt the Easiyo way:

Get a packet of Easiyo yogurt powder

Fill the yogurt maker canister with water

Add the yogurt powder, cover and then shake to mix it and top it up with more water

Add the yogurt powder, cover and then shake to mix it and top it up with more water and shake again.

After that, just place the canister into the larger white canister behind after filling up the white canister with hot water. Leave it overnight or up to 12 hours for the yogurt to set. If the weather is cool, it will set faster but if the weather is hot, then it may take longer.

The yogurt can be eaten as it is or…

Place about 4 scoops of yogurt in a shaker

Add one scoop of milk, two scoops of ice cream, some ice and then shake. You will get:

Since my yogurt is boysenberry flavour, I added vanilla ice cream and the resulting smoothie is nicely thick and rich!

Of course, the yogurt can be eaten with fresh berries:

That’s what I called healthy easy homemade yogurt for a wholesome breakfast!

So, what’s so healthy about yogurt? Here are some benefits of yogurt:

  • It is a dairy product, thus it contains calcium which is good for the bones and may prevent osteoporosis
  • Studies have shown that people who consume low-fat dairy products like low-fat yogurt may have less risk of developing high blood pressure
  • The active cultures (as in friendly bacteria) in yogurt is good for the stomach and helps ease conditions like lactose intolerance, constipation, diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, H.pylori infection and even prevent colon cancer.
  • The active cultures in yogurt also helps prevent candida infections in women
  • It makes you feel fuller and less inclined to overeating in the next meal
  • It has all the benefits of milk, except better because it also has active cultures but remember to read the labels and get those that has ‘live and active cultures’ to make sure you are eating the healthy kind of yogurt!

So why not have some healthy yogurt today!
