We have not been to Eden Restaurant in Hutton Lane for years already. Not after one bad incident where the food were absolutely horrid and we decided not to go back there.
Anyway, to celebrate my husband’s birthday recently, we went back there to try out their set lunch. Hey, they have this September promotion where the birthday boy/girl gets to eat for free (provided that you spend over RM50 and they only give free set lunch – the cheapest one, that is).
So, these are what we ordered:
Yep, that’s what you’d call a snail but at least it’s not like the common garden snail found here. And it tastes darn good, so I don’t care if it’s snail. After all, snails aren’t as dirty as, say, mice or cockroaches. It is way too slow to venture to so many places like those vermints. These are probably baked with special garlic and herbs sauce. The escargots are soft and the rich, garlicky tang complements the soft texture very well. It is RM15.50 per plate.
My husband ordered the grilled chicken with some sort of special sauce…Surprisingly, the chicken is very tender and yes, the sauce quite remarkable. It has a sweet and sourish taste to it, sorta Oriental style.
This is a bit like sweet and sour chicken served with rice. It comes with the set lunch and yes, this is the free set lunch they gave us. The set lunch comes with soup, main dish, dessert and coffee / tea. Here’s the soup they served:
It’s a clear-based soup with pieces of chicken, carrots, cabbage and onions in it. It is not too bad for an Oriental style soup served in a western food restaurant.
The portion size leaves much to be desired for the seafood platter since the fish fillet is very, very thin.Since it’s a RM23 set lunch, I guess it is okay. However, the spaghetti is absolutely GREAT. I could hardly believe it that the spaghetti is so good. As for the seafood, the mussels are a tad overcooked but it’s okay and the rest, nothing special about it.
My husband’s favourite drink in Eden has got to be the Lemon Freeze which is a refreshing, smoothie style drink.
All in all, we had a great time and even my son, the greatest food critic of all time, enjoyed the food. No food ended up on the floor as is normal with my son. I wouldn’t say the food in Eden is exceptionally good but at least, this time around, we weren’t serve horrible food. In fact, some of it are quite good. Most of the set lunches starts from RM17 per set so I have to say it is definitely value for money sets.
Rating: 7/10
Price: $$$ (not as cheap as hawker food but for restaurant category, it is quite reasonable)

We went for the September birthday promotion … the shark fin soup which comes with the set dinner was nice.
As you said, the sets lunches and also the dinner is definitely value for money.
I love the escargots too!! Same taste uh!
CK: Yeah, it is a good thing that Eden is still affordably priced or else, we probably won’t ever go back there!
cariso: Really? Very few people love escargots but we are now in search of some canned escargots so we could cook our own!
if can find fresh one, tell me tau….:)
cariso: We can’t get fresh escargots here because it is all imported, so the next best bet are canned ones. We’ve tried frozen ones, those aren’t that good and according to some restaurants, they use the canned ones.
It is a shame about Eden, being no longer what it once was! Remember it being the ultimate treat when I was a kid – celebrated plenty of birthdays and good exam results here. I went back recently and was just appalled by the food, a total disappointment.
