The yellow mee
The color doesn’t entice
It is only in the hands
Of an Indian man
Know his skill he makes his magic

On the wok of fire
Fried it with his special ingredients
It is always a secret combination
He will not tell you
The sauces he mixes

When I was staying in Penang
Along the Tanjung Bunga and Ferringhi Road
I knew of an Indian guy who dished out his best fried noodles
On the side road going into Boon Siew flat…….
I had my second order just to satisfy

At that time I didn’t find any one beating him
He always sold out in quick time…………….
The only problem with him then
He used to get drunk

When I left Penang years ago
I knew he was still selling there
In Tanjung Bunga area
Still got drunk a wasted talent
For the food business

xin: well, it really IS good.

HoneyB: I do have the recipe but never did try it out. When I do, I'll definitely share it.

550ml: mee goreng is the ONLY way to eat yellow noodles man!

annna: I agree, spicy and soury and tasty is the only way to eat yellow noodles.

Momo: Hmmm...have not tried the one in Pantai Jerjak. Will go there and try it out one day. So, have you checked out the stall in Tanjung Bungah?

I normally do not like the yellow noodles too but will eat them if they are the Mee Goreng Mamak type. Somehow this type of frying style does not really suit beehoon, koay teow or even maggi mee.

The most important ingredient is the sotong sauce and the chopped up sotong bits.Like that only got kick!

My favorite is at Taman Pantai Jerjak. The stall is situated on the padang, in front of a row of shop houses ( at one end is Public Bank). The mee rebus there is also great! I think it's called Mee Barker or something like that.

Now I am longing for a plate. Tomorrow I will go and see if that stall mentioned above is opened.

The only kind of fried noodles I like with yellow noodles in it is Mee Goreng Mamak. Fried yellow noodles and eaten with chopped chillies and lime juice. My favourite type of noodles - spicy and soury. The picture you posted made me crave for a plate of it right now!

Agree that the key to good mee goreng is the moisture balance! Like you, I am highly averse to the yellow noodles, but when used in a perfecty executed plate of mee goreng, minus the kuah overload, irresistible!!
