Being typical Penangites foodie, naturally we’d go looking for some good and interesting food when we went to Koh Samui, Thailand for a short trip. So, what did we eat?
First, we stop at the local market…
The local market near Chaweng
There they sell quite a variety of local Thai food, most of which are grilled or deep fried.

It may seem a bit weird but it actually tasted quite good. After grilling it till it turned brown, they squash it (but did not . . . → Read More: What we ate when in Koh Samui
We have not been to Eden Restaurant in Hutton Lane for years already. Not after one bad incident where the food were absolutely horrid and we decided not to go back there.
Anyway, to celebrate my husband’s birthday recently, we went back there to try out their set lunch. Hey, they have this September promotion where the birthday boy/girl gets to eat for free (provided that you spend over RM50 and they only give free set lunch – the cheapest one, that is).
For the longest time, Ipoh is well known for their nga choi kai (steamed chicken with beansprouts…pssstttt…check out my very own recipes for these below….). We’d usually stop by in Ipoh for some nga choi kai before continuing our journey whenever we go travelling by car. We’ve been so many times over the years that we’ve tried the four nga choi kai / steamed chicken with beansprouts restaurants at a crossroad in the city.
It’s been years since we last went to Foh San Restaurant for their fantastic dim sum so when we were in Ipoh for a couple of days, we made darn sure we went there for breakfast.

We tried to be early since it was a Sunday morning but…
Foh San Restaurant was really packed especially on Sunday mornings
We stood around and tried to search for a place and finally managed to ‘tap toi’ (share a table) with a couple at a corner. And then we had a feast! Let the pictures . . . → Read More: Dim sum at Foh San in Ipoh
This cosy little restaurant is tucked in a corner of one of the oldest supermarkets in Penang, Gama, situated in the middle of town. It is probably the same organisation as the bakery in Gama as the name is the same.
We’ve eaten at this tiny little restaurant a few times and what I like most about the place is the warmth and friendliness of the staff. The food is also reasonably priced and portions are quite okay.

Those of you into Thai Food, well, head on over the New World Park for the Thai Food Fair being held there until end of this month.
And this is not one of those traveling Thai Food Fairs that are usually being held at shopping complexes like Midlands Park and Sunshine Farlim. This is much, much better and yep, different.
The stalls are especially sourced by the Thai Consulate and it is organised by the Thai consulate so it is definitely better than those run-of-the-mill Thai fairs that are held at different locations for weeks and sometimes, months on . . . → Read More: Authentic Thai Food Fair
I’ve been to the Look Yuen Restaurant in Bukit Mertajam quite a few times already and each time, I never tire of their trademark dishes.
Look Yuen Restaurant
They have a variety of dishes to choose from but we always like to order their braised pork leg, fish curry and honey chicken, amongst other more normal dishes.
Fish curry
Their fish curry is slightly different from other places because it is a combination of coconut milk curry with lime. It may sound weird but the taste is really amazing because the sourish tinge actually helps to . . . → Read More: The famous Chinese restaurant in Bukit Mertajam
