Roasted Duck Rice in a corner

I am not a fan of roasted duck, mainly because of the tough duck meat and sometimes, if the restaurant / shop do not know how to prepare it, it will have a very heavy pungent smell. However, I do make exceptions for very good roasted duck. Either the duck has been roasted to perfection with wonderfully crispy skin and ultra tender meat or they better have a darn good sauce to go with the roasted duck!

However, I have found two great places with good roasted duck rice and the price is reasonable too in Butterworth. One of . . . → Read More: Roasted Duck Rice in a corner

The Tosai Shop

I tasted the best ever tosai when I went on holiday in New Delhi, India (it is called Dosa there) and ever since I have been in search of a shop that makes tosai as good as the New Delhi dosa, or at least, taste very close to it. Sadly, it is not easy to find. Most of the shops I went to either sell really stale tosai or well, just horridly sour-tasting tosai.

Although most local tosai (sold commercially) have a sourish tinge, so I thought it was supposed to taste like this. Then, I was told by . . . → Read More: The Tosai Shop

Organic and Vegetarian Food

The popularity of organic food is on the rise with more people realising the unhealthy effects of consuming foods that are laced with pesticides and are genetically modified. Most of the time, I do buy organic vegetables mainly because it tastes better and does not contain pesticides. Pesticides, even those approved, are linked to cancer and other serious diseases.

So, for a healthier lifestyle, I am slowly making a change to go for organic food. If anything, it is better to prevent than cure, especially with studies and research showing that children received four times more exposure to pesticides . . . → Read More: Organic and Vegetarian Food

Molecular cuisine

My tastebuds were given a shock with the latest new age type of cuisine to hit our shores called ‘Molecular Cuisine’. Though it did not sound all that appetising, its name far from did any justice to this type of food.

So, what was so different about molecular cuisine? Well, for one thing, it is like eating food from a science laboratory where normally solid food was rendered to liquid or foam and normally mushy food, rendered solid and firm. It may sound horrid but it was by far the most interesting and surprisingly delicious food that I’ve . . . → Read More: Molecular cuisine

Thank God It’s Friday (TGIF)

TH and I simply loved eating over at TGIF. We have always felt that the food there is almost similar to the ones in LA, US. I know it is an American franchise but sometimes, franchised outlets’ food differ from its country of origin. TH loves American food, a lot. When we were there on holiday, we practically pigged out at most of the restaurants and coffee houses and fast food chains, etc. Till now, we still find that they have the best ever Roast Pork Ribs and we could not find any restaurants here that can serve up . . . → Read More: Thank God It’s Friday (TGIF)

The Cameron Organic Produce Steamboat Restaurant

Whenever anyone goes to Cameron Highlands, they will surely try out one of the many steamboat restaurants there. Due to the cool weather up there, steamboats are indeed quite a wonderful way to warm up and fuel up too!

The last few times we went there, we never did get around to trying the steamboat restaurants. Somehow, we were more than content with dining on snacks and fresh fruits bought from the weekend night market. So, recently, we decided to give the infamous steamboat restaurants a try. It will never do that each time we went there, we did . . . → Read More: The Cameron Organic Produce Steamboat Restaurant

Don’t eat at the fake Chang Kee Restaurant in Nibong Tebal

If you have heard of the famous Teochew food especially crab porridge by Cheang Kee Restaurant in Nibong Tebal, make sure you do not go to the wrong one!

We went there recently and had a rude shock when we realised the real Cheang Kee Restaurant had moved to another location while another owner has taken over its old shoplot.

We did not even bother to take pictures of the place (the old shoplot where Cheang Kee used to be) after eating the very first dish, boiled baby octopus. I did not even want to bother with taking pictures . . . → Read More: Don’t eat at the fake Chang Kee Restaurant in Nibong Tebal
