Eat, drink and be merry over at Octoberfest

Guten Morgan! (Good morning)

Although the Malaysian-German Society (MGS) here has been celebrating Octoberfest for years now, I had never actually made a point to go to it. Somehow I’d either miss it, forget about it or simply did not have the time to go for it.

So, this year, it is my first time I finally managed to go for the German celebration last night which is complete with loads of beer, naturally. Though I have really stopped drinking beer for years (and move on to wines occasionally), I remember loving the smoothness of German beer way back . . . → Read More: Eat, drink and be merry over at Octoberfest

Revisiting Eden Restaurant in Hutton Lane

We have not been to Eden Restaurant in Hutton Lane for years already. Not after one bad incident where the food were absolutely horrid and we decided not to go back there.

Anyway, to celebrate my husband’s birthday recently, we went back there to try out their set lunch. Hey, they have this September promotion where the birthday boy/girl gets to eat for free (provided that you spend over RM50 and they only give free set lunch – the cheapest one, that is).

So, these are what we ordered:

Escargots

Yep, that’s what you’d call a snail but . . . → Read More: Revisiting Eden Restaurant in Hutton Lane

Reasonably priced western food at Farlim

Nowadays, if we want to go in search of cheap and good western food, it isn’t all that easy to find anymore. I am not even talking about restaurants here, but hawker stalls at coffee shops selling western food. Due to the soaring prices of things (thanks to the petrol hike), most hawker stalls in coffee shops are hiking up their prices too.

A plate of chicken chop from a western food hawker stall could cost up to RM7 per plate nowadays and for what? A tiny piece of chicken with a few scrawny pieces of fries and some . . . → Read More: Reasonably priced western food at Farlim

Healthy bread without preservatives

I am a bread addict. Not just any bread, I only eat wholemeal bread from certain outlets and no, it does not include Gardenia or any other supermarket mass production type of brands. I prefer to go for local bakeries which produces freshly baked bread daily.

Nowadays, we can never be too careful when it comes to purchasing foods that has shelf life as most bakeries tend to put in a lot of preservatives to make sure the bread does not become moldy too fast. This is not good. I do not want to be eating too much chemicals . . . → Read More: Healthy bread without preservatives

Tomatoes and Mushroom Omelette

Normally, I do not have time to eat in the mornings so my usual breakfast is just a cup of milk with oats. Occasionally, I do make an effort to cook a nutritious breakfast that is filling, healthy and good. A hearty breakfast is a very good way to start the day. The easiest complete breakfast to make is a tomato and mushroom omelette. It has tomatoes, which is full of vitamins and mushrooms which is also full of nutrients. The eggs are a good source of protein.

So, here’s a recipe for:

Molecular cuisine

My tastebuds were given a shock with the latest new age type of cuisine to hit our shores called ‘Molecular Cuisine’. Though it did not sound all that appetising, its name far from did any justice to this type of food.

So, what was so different about molecular cuisine? Well, for one thing, it is like eating food from a science laboratory where normally solid food was rendered to liquid or foam and normally mushy food, rendered solid and firm. It may sound horrid but it was by far the most interesting and surprisingly delicious food that I’ve . . . → Read More: Molecular cuisine

Thank God It’s Friday (TGIF)

TH and I simply loved eating over at TGIF. We have always felt that the food there is almost similar to the ones in LA, US. I know it is an American franchise but sometimes, franchised outlets’ food differ from its country of origin. TH loves American food, a lot. When we were there on holiday, we practically pigged out at most of the restaurants and coffee houses and fast food chains, etc. Till now, we still find that they have the best ever Roast Pork Ribs and we could not find any restaurants here that can serve up . . . → Read More: Thank God It’s Friday (TGIF)
