Spicy Pineapple Pork Ribs

I have been reading too many of Jessie’s (The Hungry Mouse) meaty posts and finally, I gave in and tried one of her pork ribs recipe.

Except that I didn’t follow the recipe.

Again.

I just borrowed her recipe and substituted some of the stuff…okay, okay, so I practically added a whole lot of different ingredients except for the pork ribs…so, it is definitely different from her recipe. But still, I do owe it to her as I got the idea for this recipe from her Aleppo Chili Pork Ribs with Peach and Lime Recipe.

One sauce, two main dishes

Whenever I cook during the weekends, I always do it in the shortest time possible because I’d usually be alone at home with my toddler. It is not a good idea to spend too much time in the kitchen while watching over a toddler who likes to get up to all sorts of mischief.

So, I usually do a lot of short-cuts in my cooking and one of it is to use the same sauce for two different types of mains and yet come up with absolute different flavours for both of it. Curious? Read on to find . . . → Read More: One sauce, two main dishes

Moist non-bake dates and nuts brownie recipe

The other day, my blender broke down on me just as I was preparing a non-bake dates and chocolate brownie recipe I got off from one of the fitness social networking sites I was on. It’s supposed to be healthy and all that since the recipe is sugar free and full of natural ingredients.

Since I usually take time to start making special desserts in the evening, it was a bit late to be rushing out to get a new blender. So, no thanks to that lousy blender, I was left with a pile of half-blended dates, almonds, pistachios . . . → Read More: Moist non-bake dates and nuts brownie recipe

Yam rice and soup at Bukit Mertajam

I seldom go over to Bukit Mertajam in my food forays but we happened to be in the are the other day and as usual, my foodies husband took me to this nondescript coffee shop within a housing estate to try out the yam rice hawker stall (if you are not game to going there, try out the recipe below at home).

Mutriara Coffee Shop in Bukit Mertajam

Apparently, this hawker stall (it is right behind the colourful umbrella) is quite well known and is open only for breakfast and lunch. It is usually sold out by 3pm.

Asian style spaghetti

When we mention spaghetti, the first thing that came to mind is the tomato-based, Italian style spaghetti. You know, the one with Bolognese and loads of tomatoes. Well, there are quite a few people I know who don’t really go for the tomato-based spaghetti. Some of them find it too sour or too darn weird. Then, there’s the creamy-based spaghetti which many Asians don’t quite like too because of it’s rich, creamy base. Well, there is an Asian way to enjoy your spaghetti and it is easy to prepare too.

A feast of healthy, wholesome steamboat!

It’s probably going to rain for the next few days and it rained for the whole day yesterday (causing floods and destruction) so it was a cold, cold and wet day. The best thing to do on a rainy day is to have a huge feast of some home made, home cooked healthy, wholesome steamboat!

Steamboat

The best part about having a steamboat meal is that we do not even need any cooking skills! Heheheh…however, if you want a tasty base soup, you will need to boil a huge pot of soup first.

More Ipoh food, now it’s Nga Choi Kai (steamed chicken with beansprouts)

For the longest time, Ipoh is well known for their nga choi kai (steamed chicken with beansprouts…pssstttt…check out my very own recipes for these below….). We’d usually stop by in Ipoh for some nga choi kai before continuing our journey whenever we go travelling by car. We’ve been so many times over the years that we’ve tried the four nga choi kai / steamed chicken with beansprouts restaurants at a crossroad in the city.

We’ve tried the tourist favourite…

Lou Wong Restaurant

We’ve also tried the restaurant next to Lou Wong, Onn Kee Restaurant and a smaller coffee . . . → Read More: More Ipoh food, now it’s Nga Choi Kai (steamed chicken with beansprouts)
