Vietnamese food at Miss Saigon

I’ve never eaten Vietnamese food before and had no idea what it’s like at all. All I could think of was that it probably has rice and noodles and that’s as far as I could think. I didn’t know if it was spicy like Thai food or pickled like Korean or raw like Japanese. So, I didn’t really suddenly decide to try it out.

It was all those insidous ‘marketing’ by people I know. Every once in a while, I’d hear someone rave on and on about how great the food at Miss Saigon is. So, in the end, . . . → Read More: Vietnamese food at Miss Saigon

Lunch at Salsa Restaurant

I’ve not been to Salsa Restaurant for lunch in quite a while and have forgotten why we used to love having lunch at this place. So, we went back recently. I’m happy to find that the restaurant has not changed much even after it has moved to the ground floor of Continental Hotel. I know they moved years ago but I did say I’ve not been to the restaurant in a while.

Here’s the restaurant review:

Now, on to the food… We ordered the set lunch (@RM15 per set) so here’s . . . → Read More: Lunch at Salsa Restaurant

Taking a boat ride for exceptional seafood in a quiet fishing village

Firstly, I’d like to apologise for my lapse in updating this blog when I’ve been quite consistent in updating this blog regularly. It’s out fifth wedding anniversary and I had taken time off (from work and from blogging) to spend more time with my Personal Chef/ The Food Critic and Mr Picky.

It is amazing to think that I’ve been together with my Personal Chef for a decade, half of it getting to know each other and another half as husband and wife. We’ve been through a birth of a child, two deaths, heart-stopping moments, terrible illnesses, through bad . . . → Read More: Taking a boat ride for exceptional seafood in a quiet fishing village

A Christmas-themed Thanksgiving lunch at The Brasserie

I know, this post is a bit late but I didn’t have time to load the photos (and trust me, I’ve got LOADS of photos) until now.

Anyway, Thanksgiving is very much an American tradition so over here in Malaysia, we don’t really celebrate it or even know much about it. Still, some establishments seemed to get into the whole Thanksgiving spirit and so, I got invited to a Thanksgiving lunch at The Brasserie at Traders Hotel.

I’ve only been to this restaurant a few times in my life (mostly because I couldn’t really afford to eat there all . . . → Read More: A Christmas-themed Thanksgiving lunch at The Brasserie

Great homecooked food at the Senior Citizen Association’s cafetaria

The Senior Citizen Association’s cafetaria is well-known for its Roti Babi, Spring Rolls and several other dishes for quite a long time already. In fact, The Food Critic brought me to this place more than a decade ago and now, finally, I have a chance to share their great food with everyone else!

The Senior Citizen's Association at 7, D.S. Ramanathan

Now, although the cafetaria has signs proclaiming ‘member only’, it is open to the public. So, you don’t have to be a senior citizen who’s a member of the association to eat there. I may not be . . . → Read More: Great homecooked food at the Senior Citizen Association’s cafetaria

Dinner at a restaurant inside a house

For Penangites who frequently eat in Pulau Tikus area, I am sure they would have heard about Top Top Restaurant which used to be at a shop along the main road of Burmah Road.I remember it used to be quite swanky (at least by my student days standard) and eating there was considered a luxury. The food is also quite good.

That was quite a long time ago and then one day, they closed down. I didn’t know what happened to them until in recent years, I heard that they are operating out of their home in the same . . . → Read More: Dinner at a restaurant inside a house

Dinner at Mini Restaurant

I never did get around to asking the coffee shop owner about the restaurant name, whether they meant it to mean small or something else..although mini only has one meaning. Perhaps it is someone’s name (you know, translated from Chinese or something) or perhaps they just like the sound of it. I don’t know.

For one thing though, this restaurant is definitely not mini and neither are their portions!

Mini Restaurant over at Bagan Ajam

Mini Restaurant is more like the typical old-fashioned coffee shop where decor is minimal and the focus is mainly on the food. It . . . → Read More: Dinner at Mini Restaurant
