Celebrating our anniversary at the Miraku Japanese Restaurant

I haven’t had time till now to get the tonnes of pictures I took of the places we went to eat over the weekend organised and ready to be put up here. If you don’t know already, we are Japanese food fans so naturally, we chose to go to a Japanese restaurant to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary.

Since we’ve never tried the Miraku Restaurant over at G Hotel, we went there for their set lunch.

The ambiance is very warm and cosy. The decor, simple and elegant.

Revisiting Eden Restaurant in Hutton Lane

We have not been to Eden Restaurant in Hutton Lane for years already. Not after one bad incident where the food were absolutely horrid and we decided not to go back there.

Anyway, to celebrate my husband’s birthday recently, we went back there to try out their set lunch. Hey, they have this September promotion where the birthday boy/girl gets to eat for free (provided that you spend over RM50 and they only give free set lunch – the cheapest one, that is).

So, these are what we ordered:

More Ipoh food, now it’s Nga Choi Kai (steamed chicken with beansprouts)

For the longest time, Ipoh is well known for their nga choi kai (steamed chicken with beansprouts…pssstttt…check out my very own recipes for these below….). We’d usually stop by in Ipoh for some nga choi kai before continuing our journey whenever we go travelling by car. We’ve been so many times over the years that we’ve tried the four nga choi kai / steamed chicken with beansprouts restaurants at a crossroad in the city.

We’ve tried the tourist favourite…

Dim sum at Foh San in Ipoh

It’s been years since we last went to Foh San Restaurant for their fantastic dim sum so when we were in Ipoh for a couple of days, we made darn sure we went there for breakfast.

Foh San Restaurant in Ipoh

We tried to be early since it was a Sunday morning but…

Foh San Restaurant was really packed especially on Sunday mornings

We stood around and tried to search for a place and finally managed to ‘tap toi’ (share a table) with a couple at a corner. And then we had a feast! Let the pictures . . . → Read More: Dim sum at Foh San in Ipoh

Affordable Chinese food in the old part of town

This old style restaurant has been around for almost half a century in the middle of George Town and just only a few years back, the original owner’s son took over the business. Luckily, the food is still just as good and I am glad that the taste remained as good as when we went there to eat years ago.

I wouldn’t know whether the food tastes the same as 10 or 20 years ago since I am, ahem, too young to know…heheh. My husband first introduced me to this place years ago when we first started going out . . . → Read More: Affordable Chinese food in the old part of town

Japanese buffet at Tao Cuisine

I’ve been to Tao Cuisine in e-Gate a few times already and each time, I really like their delicious food. The most wonderful part is of course the ala-carte buffet where you can order whatever you want from the menu instead of lining up and making do with the buffet line.

They don’t only offer Japanese-style food but also Thai and fusion food. A note of caution to those with young children. They will insist on charging for a child who is over 3 feet tall. My son is almost 3-feet tall (but he is only two years . . . → Read More: Japanese buffet at Tao Cuisine

Famous seafood shop near the airport

I remember when I was pregnant with my son years ago, I used to have this craving for really tasty porridge and this place became one of our favourite haunts for some clear soup dishes and seafood porridge.

We found the Sungai Tiram Joo Leong Seafood Porridge by accident because we become quite curious by the crowds there each time we pass that way. Even though we have heard about the famous ‘bihun soup’ place in Bayan Lepas, we never did link it to this wooden coffee shop along the main road of Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah.
