I never did get around to asking the coffee shop owner about the restaurant name, whether they meant it to mean small or something else..although mini only has one meaning. Perhaps it is someone’s name (you know, translated from Chinese or something) or perhaps they just like the sound of it. I don’t know.
For one thing though, this restaurant is definitely not mini and neither are their portions!

It has been awhile since we went to Kimberley Street for the variety of hawker food we can find there. So, instead of another restaurant or coffee shop, we decided to go for the good old Penang-style street hawker food along a stretch of Kimberley Street.

The one main stall we head for is this one…
The Koay Teow Th'ng / Noodles Soup stall with extras
Unlike other koay teow th’ng / beehoon th’ng (noodles / vermicelli soup) stalls, this one has side dishes to go with the noodles soup.
We have not been to Eden Restaurant in Hutton Lane for years already. Not after one bad incident where the food were absolutely horrid and we decided not to go back there.
Anyway, to celebrate my husband’s birthday recently, we went back there to try out their set lunch. Hey, they have this September promotion where the birthday boy/girl gets to eat for free (provided that you spend over RM50 and they only give free set lunch – the cheapest one, that is).
I seldom go over to Bukit Mertajam in my food forays but we happened to be in the are the other day and as usual, my foodies husband took me to this nondescript coffee shop within a housing estate to try out the yam rice hawker stall (if you are not game to going there, try out the recipe below at home).

Apparently, this hawker stall (it is right behind the colourful umbrella) is quite well known and is open only for breakfast and lunch. It is usually sold out by 3pm.
For the longest time, Ipoh is well known for their nga choi kai (steamed chicken with beansprouts…pssstttt…check out my very own recipes for these below….). We’d usually stop by in Ipoh for some nga choi kai before continuing our journey whenever we go travelling by car. We’ve been so many times over the years that we’ve tried the four nga choi kai / steamed chicken with beansprouts restaurants at a crossroad in the city.
It’s been years since we last went to Foh San Restaurant for their fantastic dim sum so when we were in Ipoh for a couple of days, we made darn sure we went there for breakfast.
Foh San Restaurant in Ipoh
We tried to be early since it was a Sunday morning but…
Foh San Restaurant was really packed especially on Sunday mornings
We stood around and tried to search for a place and finally managed to ‘tap toi’ (share a table) with a couple at a corner. And then we had a feast! Let the pictures . . . → Read More: Dim sum at Foh San in Ipoh
Most hawker stalls open everyday. Some of them don’t even have a single day off until Chinese New Year. Of course, there are the few who takes two days off each week. This particular roadside hawker stall really takes the cake because it is close 4 days a week.
We discovered this stall years ago, through a friend. We went back a few times over the years but did not notice their strange ‘working’ hours until in recent months, I wanted to go there to see whether they are still selling there. Each time we went, the stall is . . . → Read More: The only roadside stall we had to stalk before we get to eat there
